YSAS commends State Government for renewing Victorian Pill Testing Service funding
YSAS commends the State Government for funding the Victorian Pill Testing Service for the next two years, following Victoria’s successful drug-checking trial.
As part of this year’s State Budget the service received $9.6 million, which includes funding to continue operations through both a strengthened fixed site in Fitzroy, and at festivals around the state.
YSAS CEO Andrew Bruun said the renewed funding is a great outcome for Victoria.
“Strengthening Victoria’s Pill Testing Service provides people with the opportunity to make informed choices that protect their health and wellbeing,” Mr Bruun said.
The funding will also ensure early warning systems are in place to alert Victorians about potentially harmful substances, including potent synthetic opioids like fentanyl and nitazenes.
Victoria’s Pill Testing Service allows Victorians to learn the makeup of pills, capsules, powders, crystals, or liquids.
Information provided by the drug checking service is delivered by health professionals and trained peer workers, who can provide users with confidential support, education and referrals.
