Improve your health with febfast

National fundraiser febfast has begun— where Aussies ditch booze, sugar or another vice to improve their health and raise funds for young people facing addiction.

To mark the beginning of febfast, CEO of VicHealth Dr Sandro Demaio is available to talk about the scientific health benefits of taking a break from alcohol – which include improved sleep, energy levels and mental health.

Research shows the long-term effects of alcohol consumption – especially when people consume more than the recommended 10 standards drinks per week – including increased risk of diabetes and weight gain, mental health issues, various forms of cancer, fertility issues and heart issues.

Respected doctor and public health expert Dr Sandro Demaio can explain the health science behind why we feel better when we take a break from drinking, as well as provide advice for how to go a month without booze.

Over 1500 Australians have already signed up to febfast this year, which is in its nineteenth year raising funds for Australia’s largest youth alcohol and other drug service, Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS).

Funds raised from the febfast challenge directly support YSAS’ treatment services, outreach and rehabilitation programs, helping young people overcome addiction and build better futures.

YSAS CEO Andrew Bruun, YSAS General Manager of Advocacy David Jeffery and febfast Campaign Manager Alex Harrison are also available to talk about febfast and the positive impact it has on disadvantaged young people struggling with drug and alcohol use.

Australians can still sign up to the 29-day challenge this February at febfast.org.au
